7 Questions

My friend Frances did this 7 Questions Link-Up, and since I've always loved a little survey, I thought I would do it too!

First, a silly picture of me...

Caroline, who I roomed with all through college, has MANY silly/ridiculous pictures of me, and this is just one of them! I guess I was proud that I made it onto the top bunk in our dorm room?

And now for the questions!

1. If you were to start your own business, what would it be? Event planning is one component of my job, and I really enjoy it, so I would probably start my own event planning company--parties, fundraisers, weddings, etc. When I was little I wanted to open up my own daycare/child care center--I've always loved kids.

2. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, do you embrace your grumpiness or try to fight it? Try to fight it most of the time.  I'm definitely a morning person, so once I'm up, I'm pretty cheerful anyway.  Even on the  days where I don't wake up at my happiest, I try not to show it to others.

3. What's the very first memory you have? I think shopping at the mall with my mom and grandmother...I was probably 2.

4. The world is ending, what do you do? Allow yourself to die? Fight? Hide? This question makes me think of movies like I Am Legend.  I would hopefully be with the people I love, and I would probably want us to hide out and try to survive!

5. What is your favorite meal of the day? Dinner.  I love to go out to dinner with friends or eat at home with my family, or cook the meal myself!  It's nice to unwind at the end of the day with a leisurely meal.

6. How do you best learn? Visual? Listening? Hands on? I am definitely a visual learner--don't tell me, show me.  I like to watch someone do something, then do it myself.

7. What is your favorite joke? Most of the jokes I hear come from my dad and are inappropriate! I can't think of any off the top of my head that I would call my "favorite."

One Thousand Gifts

It's been a really, really long time.  I am long overdue for a lengthy post about what I've been up to, but for this one, I want to share ten little blessings with you.

I haven't finished it yet, but a few months ago I started reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp with one of my Bible study groups.  The author, who has suffered tragedy in her life like so many people, strives to find joy in the midst of every day life.  She does this by chronicling 1,000 of God's gifts that she experiences, no matter how small they may seem, to give thanks and fully experience grace.  As I was reading, I realized that if she could find beauty and gratitude in doing the dishes because of the rainbow of colors in the soap bubbles, I could find little gifts all around me.

I have a long way to go to reach 1,000, but here are 10 of my favorite little gifts:

1. Chocolate chip cookies, fresh out of the oven

2. Listening to the sound of rain falling

3. Receiving a hand-written card or note

4. Overhearing children playing

5. Catching up with friends

6. Holding hands with someone you care about

7. Feeling sand between your toes

8. Catching your favorite song on the radio

9. Waking up and realizing you still have more time to sleep

10. Laughing until you cannot breathe

Where do you find God's little gifts in your daily life?
